What Should I Wear for My Boudoir Session? | Jacksonville Boudoir Outfit Guide

β€œWhat should I wear?!”

Hands down, this is one of the most common questions I get as a Jacksonville boudoir photographer.

And I get it. Lingerie shopping can feel overwhelming. There’s so much messaging online about β€œbody types” and what you’re β€œsupposed” to wear. Hourglass this. Pear shape that. Hide this. Enhance that.

Here’s the truth:

Your body is not a problem to solve.

No two bodies are built the same. You could line up fifty different people and not a single one would share the exact same structure. So the idea that one specific lingerie style only works for one specific β€œbody type”? Not real life.

What you wear for your boudoir session isn’t about fitting into a category.

It’s about how you want to feel.

Let’s break that down.

I know, I know. That didn’t exactly answer your question, but what I mean is that there is no ONE type of lingerie that will look stunning on you! What you should and shouldn’t wear comes down to your personal preferences, NOT your body type!

So let me ask you a few questions to help you find that answer!

How Modest Do You Want to Be?

Before we talk fabric or fit, let’s talk comfort.

Do you want to flaunt everything?
Or do you feel more confident with a little coverage?

This has nothing to do with your body type and everything to do with your personality and boundaries.

In my boudoir studio, you are never pressured to wear less than you’re comfortable with. Ever. If you decide mid-session you want to try something bolder? Amazing. If you prefer to stay more covered? Also amazing.

If you love the idea of showing more skin, consider:

  • Bra and panty sets

  • A silk sheet set

  • A cropped top

  • High-cut two-piece sets

If you prefer more coverage:

  • Teddies

  • Oversized tees

  • Sweaters

  • Chemises

  • Slips

Confidence looks different on everyone.

Is There Anything You’d Rather Not Emphasize?

This is less about β€œfixing” something and more about styling intentionally.

A common area people mention is the midsection. If you’d rather soften that area in photos, try:

  • Teddies or bodysuits (full coverage to sheer options)

  • Chemises

  • Slips

  • Structured lace pieces

  • Draped fabrics

If you’re not a fan of your arms:

  • Robes

  • Long-sleeved bodysuits

  • Cardigans

  • Sheer sleeves

If your legs feel like a sensitive area:

  • Skip thigh highs

  • Choose fishnets or stockings that go to the waist

  • High-waisted bottoms

And here’s the thing: posing and lighting matter just as much as wardrobe. I guide you every step of the way so you feel supported, not exposed.

How Far Outside Your Comfort Zone Are You Willing to Go?

Now I’m going to contradict myself a little.

Sometimes the piece you’re scared of ends up being your favorite image.

Afraid to try a two-piece?
Nervous about lace?
Curious about a fully nude silhouette shot?

You truly never know how you’ll feel until you see it photographed professionally.

And if you don’t want to buy something you’re unsure about, that’s what the client closet is for. We have a massive collection of pieces in a wide range of sizes and styles so you can experiment safely without committing.

Boudoir is about exploration, not restriction.

At the end of the day, there is no single β€œright” lingerie for your body type.

There is only what makes you feel powerful, sensual, comfortable, bold, soft, playful, or completely out of your element in the best way.
