What Not to Do Before Your Boudoir Session | Jacksonville Boudoir Photographer
There are plenty of lists out there telling you how to prepare for your boudoir session.
Hydrate. Moisturize. Get excited. Bring cute outfits.
But as a Jacksonville boudoir photographer who has photographed hundreds of sessions over the years, I can tell you this confidently:
Sometimes what you donβt do matters even more.
So letβs talk about the top things I highly suggest avoiding before your boudoir session, and why skipping these will make your experience smoother, safer, and way more empowering.
1. Do Not Show Up Buzzed βTo Calm the Nervesβ
I get it. Nerves are real.
But boudoir is about stepping into your confidence fully present. Not numbed. Not fuzzy. Not slightly wobbly in 5-inch heels.
First, most of our sessions start at 9am. This is not brunch energy.
Second, you deserve to remember this day clearly. The nerves. The adrenaline. The moment you realize you just did something brave.
That empowerment hits different when you know you pushed through it on your own.
And third, posing is a workout. It looks effortless in photos, but it requires balance, coordination, and muscle engagement. Alcohol slows reaction time and can increase the risk of injury. We are not pulling a hamstring for the aesthetic.
If youβre nervous, thatβs normal. We talk. We breathe. We move slowly. And within 10 minutes youβll realize youβre doing just fine.
2. Do Not Spiral Comparing Yourself to Pinterest Boudoir Photos
Looking for inspiration is totally fine.
But obsessing over someone elseβs body, angles, or aesthetic before your session? Thatβs where things can get messy.
Search results tend to favor one specific body type. One look. One vibe. And it can quietly plant the idea that your body needs to look like that to βbelongβ in boudoir.
It doesnβt.
At Hype Girl Boudoir, we are a body positive studio. We pose every body intentionally. We adjust lighting, angles, and styling to highlight you.
Coming in with a blank slate often leads to the best results. You get to experience your session authentically instead of trying to recreate something you saw online.
Your boudoir session is not about copying someone elseβs confidence. It is about discovering your own.
3. Do Not Try New Skin Products or Fake Tan
This is the big one.
Please do not experiment with new tanning lotions, spray tans, face masks, or skincare products right before your session.
Artificial tanning can lead to:
β’ Orange tones under studio lighting
β’ Uneven color
β’ Missed spots
β’ Harsh tan lines
β’ Transfer onto furniture and fabrics
And we do not edit tan lines or recolor skin tones.
If youβre worried about looking pale, donβt be. We use lighting and editing techniques to give you a natural, healthy glow.
The same goes for new skincare products. Even if it says βgentle,β your skin might disagree. Rashes, irritation, and breakouts love to show up at the worst possible time.
Stick with what your skin already knows and loves.
4. Bonus: Do Not Overthink Every Tiny Detail
This one came straight from one of our clients in the Hype Girl Boudoir VIP Babe Cave Facebook group:
βDonβt stress yourself out and overthink things. It can be really hard if youβre a chronic overthinkerβ¦ but remember this is supposed to be fun. And if you start spiraling, just reach out to the Hype Girl team. Talking to them is like talking to a friend.β β Miss L
That right there is it.
You do not need to micromanage every detail. You do not need to know how to pose. You do not need to transform yourself into someone else.
Your Jacksonville boudoir photographer has you covered.
So What Should You Do Instead?
Show up hydrated. Rested. And open.
Trust the process. Trust your body. Trust that you are in a safe, inclusive, body positive space.
And if you have done a session with us before, I would love to hear from you.
